Modern Farming Techniques in India

Modern Farming Techniques in India promote sustainable agriculture, improves the fertility of the soil, decrease the effect on the ecosystem, and have modern storage methods that reduce wastage of food grains.

Agriculture & Farming has experienced so many new changes in the past few years. Increasing costs and less production by traditional ways of farming are the main reasons behind these innovations. These new modern farming techniques in India go beyond the future of agriculture, these are the keys to the survival of the human race.

The recent strategy of liberalization and globalization has opened up new avenues for modern agriculture techniques. It has focused not only on improving agricultural inputs, and infrastructure facilities in rural areas but also on generating agricultural surpluses for local and international markets.

The increase in food production has been mainly due to scientific advances and the use of new technologies, including the development of new crop varieties including molecular breeding techniques, organic farming systems, genetically modified cropping systems, and the construction of large irrigation systems.

Smart farming is what we need in India, it includes the best farming techniques that involve higher and advanced productivity with existing farming practices. It is used to enhance production efficiency and the quality of farming products. With all this, smart farming techniques increase farmers’ quality of living by minimizing heavy and monotonous work.

In short, we can say that smart farming is all about reducing waste, developing products, and full use of resources with remote sensing. Smart farming is also called “precision farming” too. It requires using various smart farming technologies, the internet of things (IoT) devices, big data analytics, remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and robotics. It is scientifically proven that using these technologies increases profit, decreases waste, and maintains the environment’s quality. Smart & modern farming technologies create the best circumstances to boost the value of nutritional products.

Modern agricultural methods & technologies are used by farmers but in some rural areas, the rate of adaptation of new technologies by farmers is slow due to a lack of awareness among farmers.

New technologies such as organic farming, genetically modified crops, vertical farming, polytonal farming, greenhouse farming, satellites of precision agriculture (PA), and producing a new scope for using multi-crop farming are important for food today and in the future.

The farming systems that remarkably contribute to the agriculture of India are subsistence farming, organic farming, and industrial farming. Regions all over India vary in the types of farming they use; some are based on horticulture, ley farming, agroforestry, and many more.

These are some of the Modern Farming techniques in India used:-

Monoculture

This technique is adopted for a single crop only in a specific area of the farming system. Some of the examples like growing medicinal plants rising under indoor farming and falling under monoculture.

Aquaponics

This technique is a combination of closed-loop systems in between aquaculture and agriculture for fertilization.

Hydroponics

This method is used under a less-soil type of farming system. The process of hydroponics is consumed with less soil formation. It becomes rich in minerals. The farming is done to supply high minerals and solutions to the farmers for better agriculture methods.

Aeroponics System

The plants that are grown without the use of soil but with the help of air or mist environment use an aeroponics system. Through this method, we can control the amount of water we need to use.

Drones

Agriculture drones can be used to do anything from precision agriculture, to efficiently dispersing weed control or fertilizers, to optimizing field management. The results include decreased operation costs, better crop quality, and an expanded yield rate.

In conclusion, Modern agriculture techniques help in reducing the manpower required for agricultural work so that the additional manpower available in the agriculture sector can be used in the industry sector to grow the Indian economy.

Modern farming techniques in India promote sustainable agriculture, improves the fertility of the soil, decrease the effect on the ecosystem, and have modern storage methods that reduce wastage of food grains.
